WORK EXPERIENCE

Boutique JACOB Inc., Kingsway Garden Mall, Edmonton, Alberta

October 2006 - January 2006

Service/Sales Associate
At JACOB, I was a designated manager on duty. With this title I was given the responsibility of running a team of three or more employees, often as the only manager on duty. I would open and close the store, including counting the float and making a deposit at the bank. Also, I worked on payroll and scheduling. Working as an employee at JACOB I learned valuable skills, such as team work and leadership skills. I was expected to friendly greet customers and provide them with a knowledge of fashion and fit in the clothing at JACOB.

Cole International, Edmonton, Alberta

August 2005 - October 2006

Release Operations Representative
As a release operations representative at Cole International, a customs brokerage company, I was responsible for entering invoices from our clients into a computer system for our records and for transmission to Canada Customs for approval. My responsibilities included deciphering invoices and other paperwork for the information required, inputting it correctly into our companies electronic system, and also prioritizing my time as the entries I logged all were time sensitive. Often I would be required to speak with people over the phone, from Canada Customs officers, to employees of our company in other offices in Canada, to freight forwarders, to our clients themselves, or the companies, usually from the United States who were selling the goods to our clients in Canada. As well as these duties, I acquired many office-related skills like running a switchboard, using various computer programs, time-management and workload delegation.

Method Streetwear, Whyte Ave, Edmonton, Alberta

June 2005 - September 2005

Sales Associate
Working as a salesperson at Method Streetwear, a clothing store, I learned a lot about working retail in a short amount of time. My duties consisted of following a five-step customer care process with each person I helped. I greeted them, determined if they were seeking a specific product, or products, and helped them locate what they were looking for. After they had decided on a purchase, the five-step process required that I also draw their attention to other products that might be of interest to the customer, before making sure that they were taken care of at the till by a cashier. As well as dealing with customers, my co-workers and I frequently ensured that the store was neat, clean, and organized.

Race Trac Gas, Tomahawk, Alberta

June 2002 - September 2002

Service Station Attendant
I worked in my hometown as a gas station attendant at Tomahawk's Race Trac Gas station. I would open and close the station, along with a supervisor, but usually I would work on my own, being responsible for the entire station myself. I would pump gas and diesel, check fluids, run the till, and also learned how to safely dispense propane. Working alone and taking care of multiple customer needs at once taught me to multi-task and use time effectively. As well, I learned patience and acquired many customer service skills. Also, as this was my summer job during my last two years of high school, I worked the following July and August 2003 at the gas station.

MAJOR ACCOMPLISHMENTS

In March through May 2002, I volunteered my time in a program called "It's Cool To Be In A Relationship" through Youth In Action, out of Wildwood and Evansburg, Alberta. I was training to be a camp counselor for a weekend program for grade and eight students in my community, teaching about the decisions and consequences they may be faced within their next years. It required a lot of time and effort but was a worthwhile and enjoyable experience.

As well, in 2001, I trained with a team and then travelled to Spokane, Washington to participate in a twelve kilometer marathon called the Lilac Bloomsday Run.

I enjoy reading, writing, playing outdoor sports, especially beach volleyball. I love to paint and draw, and listening to, or seeing live, a variety of music. I like to shop and spend lots of time with my close friends and family.
